Hi there. I’m Jenny Usselman, MA, LMHCA
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate and Nationally Certified Counselor. As a relational therapist, I believe growth, healing, and restoration are made possible in safe and supportive relationships, which is why my goal in the therapy room is to always cultivate a space that is warm, non-judgmental, and collaborative. I work primarily with young adult and adult clients. I enjoy working with both individuals and couples. I have experience supporting clients experiencing relationship concerns, infertility, pregnancy & postpartum, parenting, eating disorders, body image concerns, depression, anxiety, life transitions, and trauma & PTSD. I am also passionate about supporting first responders and their families.
My Approach
Although I adapt my approach to fit each unique client, I primarily work from a psychodynamic and narrative therapy framework. Here are some of the ways I will support you as your therapist: explore your story/lived experiences and how this has shaped who you are today; help you identify and understand your reoccurring patterns; shed light on the why’s behind your tendencies; offer tools for navigating life’s challenges; and encourage and challenge you in living in a way that is more in alignment with your values.
Couples Therapy
I primarily use Gottman Method Couples Therapy in my work with couples. I have received advanced training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. The overarching goals of couples therapy using this method are to learn how to manage conflict constructively, improve and deepen a sense of friendship and intimacy within the relationship, and to strengthen a sense of shared meaning within the relationship. I also integrate attachment work and emotion-focused therapy into my work with couples.
Eating Disorders and Body Image
I am passionate about supporting individuals struggling with eating disorders and body image concerns. I have over three years of experience working in residential and partial-outpatient eating disorder treatment with clients of all ages. I have also created and facilitated body image group curriculum in college settings. I work from a Health at Every Size (HAES) and anti-diet approach, which means that I advocate for body respect, body neutrality, intuitive eating, and joyful/mindful movement for all people, regardless of weight, shape, size, or identity. My goal is to support clients in working toward peace with food and body.
First Responders
As the wife of a first responder, I understand the unique stressors that first responders and their loved ones experience every day. I care deeply about supporting this population. Whether you are a first responder or loved one pursuing therapy for help healing your relationships or past trauma, to explore your relationship with substances, for help managing stress and anxiety, or because you are simply seeking a space to process your day-to-day life, I would be honored to partner with you as you journey toward healing and personal growth.
More About Me
In my free time, you can find me watching sports with my husband and daughter (I love baseball—go Mariners!), baking for family and friends, playing pickle ball, and trying new restaurants. I also love a good rom-com and will never turn down dessert after a meal!
